Around the age of 10, he was given a train set. To furnish the set, he set about building little huts, the train station and tiny trees to make his collection alive. The materials used were very simple - cardboard and glue. Nevertheless, these work of art helped to hone his talent and skills in building scale models.
A couple of years later, his interest expanded into building and collecting miniature airplanes. Each tiny replica gave understanding and knowledge how each part fit in. Hours spent being absorbed in these small wonders paid off when he completed his training as an architectural engineer in 1990 in Kuala Lumpur.
However, Freddie also loved the satisfaction of being able to design comfortable and pleasant interior of the homes and offices he helped to build. He went to study again, this time in Brighton, England, to become an interior designer.
Therefore, now Freddie has the best of both worlds. The skill to build scale models, together with the understanding of making the interior of the models come alive with pleasant decoration.
So his scale models feature not just the skeleton of a building, but can also include the furniture, down to the last tiny chair's leg or a postage stamp size painting.

His love for heritage buildings, architecture and model making was fostered when he was growing up in his ancestral home in Penang. The house is now designated as one of the heritage buildings.
The ability to visualize the landscape, building and details of the interior, similar to what an ant would perceive, is not an easy feat. Attention to detail, meticulous planning and the intense drive to make each piece close to perfection are crucial.
Over the years, his reputation as a master in this art grew, giving him many completed assignments in his portfolio. Satisfied clients rave about his work. At the moment, Freddie Lim co-owns ZF Mirage Venture. It is a company based in Penang specializing in designing scale model buildings for town planners, architects or housing developers.
Beside scale models, ZF Mirage Venture can also be commissioned as a consultant for your interior design needs.
He has a few artists working for him but all projects would have his own personal touch. No piece would be allowed to be sent to the client without passing his strict and high standard.

Being an artist, Freddie Lim also does some black and white sketches in pencil and ink. Naturally, the subjects are close to his vocation - the elevation of Heritage Buildings. In Penang, there are many old historical buildings which are designated as treasured heritage by the state government. You may enquire to purchase these limited editions work of art.
